Review ACT government-funded mental health services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people

Yulang was commissioned to work with the ACT Health Directorate to review all Government-funded mental health services that are available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

We worked with the holistic view of health in mind, along with self-determination for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and the expressed wishes of the local community. We also brought to this work the knowledge gained over the past few years of working on policies and models of care to support the mental health and wellbeing care of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in NSW.

We mapped all services relevant to the needs of the local community, and assessed the degree to which those services meet needs. Working with community and local experts, we provided options for the ACT Health Directorate to determine the best way forward, which included a consideration of current and potential new services, models of care, the cultural responsiveness of services and of non-Indigenous staff, partnerships, the ideal client journey, culturally appropriate KPIs and the reporting burden.
